Employment

Becoming a Tutor

Each semester the Academic Resources Center recruits and trains Harding students to be one-to-one peer tutors. Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Have been enrolled at Harding for at least one semester
  • Be in good standing with the University
  • Be at least a sophomore
  • Have (and maintain) at least a 3.0 grade point average (especially in the courses for which they will tutor)
  • Provide two Harding faculty recommendations
  • Have good communication skills in the English language
  • Fill out an application
  • Be available for a training session. The ARC tutoring program has national Certification through the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE). Our tutor training program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) at Level I (Regular) and Level II (Advanced).

Benefits of Being a Tutor:

The on-the-job training our tutors receive can help them to develop their own learning skills and strategies to maximum potential. Tutors who complete certification requirements receive a certificate plus a $$BONUS$$ in pay. Tutors enjoy the fellowship and rewarding experience of being part of a team of trained academic support personnel. You can transfer these indispensable life skills to your future Christian ministry on the job, with friends, and in your own family. The experience and certification will enhance your resume.
