Teaching and Research Interests
I began teaching at Harding University in 1971 and have been involved in 15 different courses since that time. Current courses include Biostatistics, Herpetology, and Vertebrate Morphology. I also participate in several team-taught courses including Animal Physiology, Developmental Biology, Ecology Lab, and Seminar. My research interests are in the population and physiological ecology of reptiles, particularly snakes and turtles. Research methods include mark-recapture, radiotelemetry, and miniature data logging techniques. I have published regularly since 1975, including the 2004 book, "The Amphibians and Reptiles of Arkansas." I enjoy working with both undergraduate and graduate students. Because Harding does not have a graduate program in biology, I serve on graduate committees at several universities as an adjunct. I also enjoy engaging undergraduate students in research projects and actively seek out promising students to work with me. Undergraduate researchers are expected to do professional quality work and coauthor manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals for possible publication.
