Netiquette
When you use the Internet, you are sharing a large, yet finite, space with hundreds of thousands of other people. You will communicate with some of them through e-mail and other direct methods, you will hear about many others indirectly and you will encounter still others only in the sense that you are both trying to use the same resource at the same time, or that they are managing computers that you are trying to use.In this sense, the Internet is like any other social situation. Good behavior and respect of others is important. If you don't know what the rules are, a very simple guideline for Internet behavior is as follows:
Here are some “rules” to e-mail etiquette:
- What are the possible consequences of your actions for other users?
- Is it possible for someone to be disturbed or hurt by what you send to them?
- Is it possible that computing resources may be hindered or crash because of your activities?
- Is there a better way to express your thoughts, a more appropriate time to attempt to use resources, a better way to use them?
- Read all of the FAQs (Frequently Asked Ques-tions) and any README files before asking for help when the answers are readily available.
