Special Education
With a scarce job market engulfing Arkansans, teachers across the state are constantly seeking opportunities to put themselves ahead of the competition. With three locations and online courses, Harding University’s special education licensure and master’s programs in the Cannon-Clary College of Education offer educators the opportunity to enhance their skills and further advance their careers.
Students seeking licensure complete six courses — three online, one distance learning and two “hybrid” courses, which include online study and face-to-face instruction. Combining the flexibility of online courses with the added touch of some in-person instruction is both effective and valuable.
Students who complete the six licensure courses can continue their education to obtain a Master of Special Education degree with just 17 more hours of study. The master’s program began in 1999, and enrollment has more than doubled in the past three years as it continues to offer more courses online.
The Arkansas Department of Education works to support educators who are taking steps to enhance their skills in special education. The Tuition Reimbursement Program for Special Education Teachers is a recruitment tool that pays up to $3,500 for any teacher seeking additional licensure in special education.
