COMO 101 International Program Package

PatGarner
The Center for Learning with Technology has been working closely with Dr. Pat Garner, Director of the Communication Studies Program, to develop an online package for faculty who will be teaching COMO 101 in the International Programs.

The process began in the Fall of 2011 when the Center for Learning with Technology, the Library Media Specialist, and the International Programs explored together the technological opportunities and resources available to more effectively and efficiently support faculty members as they prepare to teach abroad in the seven overseas programs Harding offers. Never before have three separate programs assembled together for the common objective of exploring the integration of learning with technology for the central purpose of developing effective twenty-first century learning environments.

One of our immediate objectives was to provide faculty, who will be teaching COMO 101 courses in the International Programs, with pre-recorded classroom lectures.  Dr. Pat Garner has embraced this effort and has been recording topical discussions, interviews, and classroom lectures during the fall and spring semesters.  Student’s comments were captured after attending Dr. Garner’s face-to-face class to provide overseas students with a student’s perspective of the content covered in random classes. The Center for Learning with Technology has assisted Dr. Garner by researching, developing, and assembling the necessary technologies needed to deploy the online package.

The final product will be a fully developed online content package for COMO 101, accessible to all faculty and students enrolled in one of the International Programs.  The online content package will assist and guide faculty as they teach a course where they may not be a content expert.   The site will serve as a repository of course content, multimedia resources, video recorded lectures, and topical content infused with technology.

Our goal is to have the online course developed and ready for implementation in the summer of 2012.
