Church & Family Staff

Andrew Baker - Director
Andrew Baker is the director for the Institute for Church & Family. He received his B.A. from Harding University, and his M.A. in Youth & Family at the Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis. Andrew also serves as the director of Uplift, a three week summer camp on the campus of Harding, Editor-in-Chief of Teenage Christian magazine and is the manager for all ICF events and publications. He has also served as a columnist for the Arkansas Christian Herald and Editor for Church & Family magazine. Andrew and his wife Amy have two daughters, Julianne and Maryella.

 

Andrew Baker

Carl Mitchell, Ph.D. - Consultant
Carl Mitchell is a consultant to the Institute for Church & Family. He received his B.A. and his M.A. from Pepperdine University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Dr. Mitchell served as a missionary in Italy for 17 years and currently works there three months each spring. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and clinical member of APA and AAMFT. He has been with Harding University for more than 18 years and led in the founding of the master's program in Marriage and Family Therapy. He also was co-founder of Harding University in Florence, Italy.

 

Carl Mitchell

Tim Westbrook - Associate Director
Tim Westbrook is the associate director for the Institute for Church & Family. He received his B.A. in psychology from Harding University and his M.A. in doctrine from Harding University Graduate School of Religion. He is currently pursuing an M.Div with a concentration in Old Testament. Tim was a missionary to Szolnok, Hungary for 8 years (1995-2003), working with church plantings in three cities and the development of the LET Christian Foundation and Bible School (a resource and training center for the Hungarian churches of Christ). In 2002-03, he was a visiting missionary at Harding University. From 2003-05, he worked fulltime for Resource Publications as the assistant editor for the Truth for Today Commentary series. Tim has written articles for Gospel Advocate, Restoration Quarterly, and Truth for Today.
Tim is married to Anessa, and they have three children, Alina, Anna, and Theo.

Tim Westbrook

Kay Gowen - Senior Ministry/Curriculum Development

Kay Gowen is the publications manager for the Institute for Church & Family. She received her undergraduate degree from Harding University and holds an M.S. in Mass Communication from Arkansas State University. Kay has previously served as the Dean of Women and worked in Harding's public relations office. She is currently an associate professor in the areas of journalism and public relations. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1998. Kay and her husband Jim have two sons, Jamey and Darren.

Laura Kaiser - Special Projects Director

Laura is the Managing Editor for Teenage Christian magazine and the Special Projects director for the Institute for Church & Family. Laura received her bachelors degree in political science from Harding University.

Kay Gowen

Jay Simpson - Managing Editor, Arkansas Christian Herald

Jay Simpson serves as the managing editor for the Arkansas Christian Herald, a monthly tabloid newspaper published by the Institute for Church & Family. He earned an associate degree from Crowley's Ridge College and his undergraduate degree in journalism from Harding University. Jay currently serves as an assistant director of student financial service in addition to his duties at ACH. Jay is a deacon for the College church of Christ in Searcy. He and his wife Ruth have three children, Jordan, Lindsey, and Ryan.

 

Jay Simpson

Penny Light is the Executive Assistant for the Director and the Seminar and Events Planner for the Institute for Church & Family. She is also the circulation manager for Arkansas Christian Herald and Teenage Christian Magazine. She is certified in corporate event planning and attended Abilene Christian University. She and her husband, Tom, have three grown sons.

Brandon Tittle - Assistant Director

Brandon Tittle is the assistant director for the Instiutue for Church & Family. Brandon earned his bachelors degree in Youth & Family Ministry from Harding University and is currently pursuing a Master of Ministry from Harding. Brandon is the assistant director for Uplift and manages the drama ministry group, Theatron. He is a contributing editor for Teenage Christian magazine and oversees events and resources partaining to teens. He is married to Joy Ellis Tittle.

 

 

Melissa Vath - Graduate Assistant

Melissa is the graduate assistant for the Institute for Church & Family. Melissa has her bachelors degree in Mid-level Math and Science Education and is pursuing her masters in Education - secondary special education from Harding University. Melissa works with Uplift and special projects. Melissa is married to Kyle Vath.

Brandon Tittle

 

Austin Light - Graduate Assistant

Austin is the graduate assistant for Teenage Christian and the Marketing Division of Admissions. He received his bachelors degree in Print Journalism from Harding University and is pursuing his masters in Education with an English specialty. Austin is a lead writer for TC Magazine and th Entertainment Editor. He is married to the former Brooke Bernard.
