Software Recommendations

The following information will help you select software that will be compatible with software in labs and other places on campus.

  • Anti-virus software is highly recommended.  If you connect to the network in campus housing, it is required for your protection as well as other's protection.  The McAfee anti-virus software is provided as a free service to current students and can be acquired from the Student Help Desk.
  • We also highly recommend that you have the most recent versions of your operating system.  For Windows machines, we recommend Windows XP Professional as a minimum.  For Macs, ...
  •  We also recommend anti-spyware software to deal with "malware".  More information can be found here.
  • All of the campus labs have the Microsoft Office software.  Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are used extensively for classes with the other components used in some classes.
  • Harding is moving toward using Google Apps for Education for email, calendar and document services.  The conversion is in progress at this time and is expected to be ready by mid-July.  Everyone will be given the opportunity to "opt-in" before a date in October when the rest will be converted.  We are excited about this product because we feel it will provide valuable service to our students, faculty, and staff.
