2008 Fall Semester Schedule
PLEASE NOTE: No student is eligible to attend Harding University in Latin America who is CURRENTLY on academic, chapel or disciplinary probation on the Searcy campus. Any student who has applied and/or been accepted will AUTOMATICALLY become ineligible if placed on any type of probation up until time to depart. Such individuals will be placed on a waiting list and may go ONLY if there are openings after probation has been removed. In addition, a student must have an overall 2.0 GPA.
Spanish 103 - Accelerated Elementary Spanish I (3) Mrs. Michelle Coizman
Designed for students with at least one year of high school Spanish or its equivalent who have insufficient background to enroll in Spanish 201. Oral and written communication, grammar and culture.
Spanish 201 - Intermediate Spanish I (3) Mrs. Michelle Coizman
A review of grammar with continued emphasis on oral and written communication. Prerequisite: 102 or two years of high school Spanish.
Spanish 325 - Regional Language and Culture (3) Mrs. Michelle Coizman
Offered in a Spanish-speaking country. Linguistic variations of the chosen region. An in-depth cultural study of the given country with special attention to the contemporary period. Prerequisite: 202 or equivalent.
Humanities 275 - Latin American Civilization & Humanities (2-6) Dr. Cliff Ganus and Mrs. Michelle Coizman
Offered only at HULA. A cultural survey of Latin American art, drama, history, literature, music, philosophy, religion and science, and their influences in shaping ideas and values in this area of the world. Required of all students participating in the international programs. May substitute for 2-6 hours selected from the following: Art 101, Biology 250, English 201 or 202, History 111, Music 101 and Philosophy 251. Note: can not be used to raise a grade in any course previously taken.
Como 101 – Speech Communication (3) Dr. Debbie Ganus
Instruction and practice in the theory and skills of public and interpersonal communication. Organization and delivery of short speeches, reading aloud in public, and group discussions, critical listening, and evaluation.
EdFd 203 – Child & Adolescent Development (3) Dr.Debbie Ganus
The physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children from conception through adolescence. Child and adolescent development as related to the school setting. Cannot be taken by correspondence. Students must complete 15 hours of observation and an application for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Note: EdFd 203 will substitute for Psy 201 (General Psychology) in the Liberal Arts Program.
MUS 101 – Music Appreciation (2) Dr. Cliff Ganus
The role of music in world cultures, with attention given to correlative developments in other arts. Does not count toward any music degree.
Biology 250 - Environmental Science (3) Dr. John Moon’s DVD (Supervised by Dr. Ganus)
Biological knowledge of the structure and function of ecosystems; human influence on the environment. Three lectures and/or discussion groups per week.
Biology 111 - General Biology (3) Dr. John Moon’s DVD(Supervised by Dr. Ganus)
A lecture course in the principles of biology for students not majoring in natural sciences. Satisfies the general education requirement in biology, but does not count toward a major or minor in biology.
Biology 113 - Human Structure and Functions (3) Dr. John Moon’s DVD (Supervised by Dr. Ganus)
Structure and function of selected human organ systems and the cellular mechanisms. Designed for majors in communication disorders, dietetics, nursing, physical education and others who need an introduction to human anatomy and physiology. Satisfies the Liberal Arts requirement in biology, but does not count toward a major or minor in biology.
