Letter from the President
Dear friends,
I want to invite you to attend our 88th Annual Bible Lectureship next fall, September 25-28, 2011. Since our founding in 1924, this has been a signature event for Harding University. Each year we have guests from all across the United States and all around the world who come together for these four special days of worship, fellowship, study, and inspiration.
The theme of this year's Lectureship, Children of God: Studies in 1 John, is closely tied to the mission of Harding University. Anchored as it is in the biblical text, it beautifully models our commitment to the authority of Scripture as expressed in the following paragraph of the spiritual preface to the University's current strategic plan:
Another important aspect of our institutional identity is our belief in the Bible as the fully inspired and authoritative word of God. We hold it to be "God-breathed" and the basis of our teaching and life. The Bible is central to our goal of spiritual transformation in the life of everyone at Harding. Consequently, it is our goal that all graduating seniors leave our university with a greater level of confidence in Scripture than they had when they first arrived on campus. (You can find the complete preface document at www.harding.edu/spiritualPreface.html.)
I think you will find our Lectureship to be spiritually challenging, enriching, and encouraging. It is always a great time to connect with new friends and to re-connect with people who have blessed your life in the past. I hope you will make plans to be here September 25-28 to join us for our 88th Annual Bible Lectureship!
Yours in Christ,
David B. Burks
President, Harding University
