Harding to offer new engineering degree programsSEARCY - Beginning this fall, Harding University will offer two new degree programs in electrical and mechanical engineering. “Our immediate purpose is to produce engineers for employment in the workforce upon graduation,” said Dr. Travis Thompson, dean of the College of Sciences.
Said Thompson, “I’m very excited and interested in the synergy that the new programs might bring to the research already conducted on campus.” The addition of the two majors was in direct response to expressed interest. “The demand has always been there,” Thompson said. “There is an indicated interest through Admissions and the data they gather.” This includes high school students marking the subjects on the ACT as a preference for collegiate study or asking admissions officers whether the University offers them as majors. Thompson says the new programs are geared toward students with a “strong scientific bent.” His recommendation to current high school students planning to study electrical or mechanical engineering is that they “get all the math, physics and chemistry they can get.” High school students interested in pursuing a degree in one of the new programs should contact the Office of Admissions Services at (800) 477-4407.
