August 12, 2005 Scottish Rite Masons donate $15,000 to Harding UniversitySEARCY - The Scottish Rite Masons of Arkansas presented a $15,000 check Thursday to the Rite Care Center on Harding University's campus, also known as the Reading and Learning Diagnostic Center. Dr. Jeanine Peck, who directs the after-school Reading Program, and Dr. Jim Carr, executive vice president of the University, accepted the contribution.Over the past 10 years, the group has donated $135,500 to various Harding endeavors, including the language and literacy programs of the Speech Clinic and the Reading Program. Dwane Treat, sovereign grand inspector general, made the presentation on behalf of the Scottish Rite Masons, whose 184 Rite Care Centers across the United States are serving hundreds of thousands of children. Searcy veterinarian Dr. Larry D. Berry, venerable master, member of the official board of the Scottish Rite Masons in Little Rock, accompanied Treat. "We are very pleased to be part of this program on the Harding campus, and we look forward to continuing support for the program financially," Treat said. This year all Scottish Rite Foundation contributions to Rite Care Centers in Arkansas are in honor of the Ill. Doyle Rogers, 33rd degree, of Batesville, Ark. The Reading and Learning Diagnostic Center is open to children in grades second through sixth who need extra help in reading. They are assessed, and then certified teachers provide one-on-one instruction and tutoring twice a week. "This is a very generous gift that allows us to serve more children," Peck said.
