PURPOSE OF THE EXPERIENCE

The Band Camp I at Harding University offers one week of intense training for the beginning band instrument student.  Our goals are:

  • To enhance the opportunity for personal growth in music and to enrich the total music education experience for each individual,
  • To further develop fundamentals skill taught in the student's first year of instruction,
  • To motivate each student to be a leader in their own school environment.

DAILY SCHEDULE: 8 AM to 12 PM

Each student will be involved in morning master classes on their instrument, fundamentals development classes, ensemble rehearsals, and a leadership class. Master class sessions are taught by certified and experienced faculty, who give each student personal attention.  The camp is held in morning hours only, allowing participating students to continue with evening activities as normal.

Participants should arrive at the Reynolds Center for Music and Communication on the Harding University campus at least 15 minutes prior to 8:00 am on Monday June 27, 2011.  In keeping with the idea of a focused, low cost, no-frills experience, no meals or over-night dorm rooms will be provided for participants.

Each student should bring his own instrument, as well as reeds and other items necessary for playing. Percussionists should bring their own sticks, mallets, and practice pads.
