Summer Music Programs

STRING EXPERIENCE
June 25-29

String PlayersString Experience is a week-long day-camp for string players ages 7-14 in the White County area. The emphasis will be on having FUN experiencing MUSIC together!

String Experience will combine with the regular band students for Harding Univ. Band and Orchestra Camp this summer.

Held in the Reynolds Center for Music and Communication on the campus of Harding University, String Experience activities include: string orchestra, string technique, and musicianship classes.

DAILY SCHEDULE 8:00am to 5:00pm

The schedule includes the following activities:

  • String Orchestra rehearsal
  • Music FUNdamentals class
  • Experiencing Music class
  • lunch - fun time
  • Conducting and Movement class
  • Fiddling class
  • Afternoon concerts and fun activities

FACULTY

Patricia Cox earned a Ph.D. in music education from the University of North Texas.  She has been teaching strings in White County for over 30 years and is currently Professor of Music at Harding, where she teaches strings and music education courses.  She also serves as president of the Arkansas chapter of the American String Teachers Association and as a governor-appointed board member of the Arkansas Arts Advisory Council.

Cynthia Thompson Carrell earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance University of Illinois and degrees in Music Education from University of North Texas.  As Assistant Professor of Music at Harding, she teaches applied trumpet and horn, music theory, music appreciation, and music education courses.  She also performs regularly with the Searcy Brass and as Principal Trumpet in the Pine Bluff Symphony.

Michael Chance earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Memphis.  As Associate Professor of Music at Harding, he is the director of the Harding University/Community Orchestra, Harding Wind Ensemble, and Thundering Herd marching band.  He also teaches applied low brass, conducting and music history courses, and can be heard each season as principle trombonist in the Little Rock Wind Symphony.

Megan Joyner earned a Bachelors of Music Education with emphasis on strings from the University of Central Arkansas. She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Philosophy of Education and Theories. As string teacher/orchestra director for the Searcy School District, she teaches beginning violin at the elementary schools and beginning orchestra at the middle school.

STRING EXPERIENCE - SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
