Chapter Grants
Chapter Grant Recipients
This program was initiated to assist chapters in financing scholarly projects and activities. For the 2007-08 academic year, the fund will be $5,000. The guidelines are as follows:

  • A fund of $5,000 will supply grants of no more than $250 each to chapters to help finance scholarly projects and activities.
  • Application proposals must be sent to the national office and will be evaluated on the basis of the extent to which they encourage scholarship and promote the visibility of Alpha Chi on the campus.
  • Applications will be taken annually from August 1 until the program fund is expended.
  • Programs that involve direct payments to student members will not be funded.
  • A chapter will be limited to one grant every two years.
  • Application (MS Word doc)

Star Chapters
Star Chapter Recipients
Star Chapters are named each academic year and are recognized at regional and national conventions. Any chapter may receive Star Chapter status by meeting each of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of one sponsor and one student delegate must attend the yearly regional/national convention.
  • A minimum of one student presentation must be made at the regional/national convention.
  • At least one Nolle and/or Benedict application must be submitted each academic year.
  • At least one scholarly program must be sponsored on campus during the academic year.
  • New members must be inducted and registered during the academic year.
  • The Annual Chapter Report must be filed with the National Office by September 1.

Beginning September 1 each year, the National Office will review the Annual Chapter Reports for chapters that meet the Star Chapter requirements. Certificates will be presented to the Star Chapters at the next convention, and a list of the chapters will be published in the Recorder or Newsletter and on the Alpha Chi National web site.

Outstanding Chapter
Outstanding Chapter Recipients
The President's Cup is a trophy that travels to the institution receiving the Outstanding Chapter Award. One chapter every two years is honored; chapters cannot win the award successively. The President's Cup is presented to the winning chapter at the national convention.

The Arkansas Iota chapter at Lyon College, Batesville, Arkansas, won the 2007 President's Cup at the March national convention, claiming the title of the outstanding chapter in Alpha Chi for 2005-07. (full story here)

Selection Criteria (in order of importance)

  1. Campus activities (lectures, awards, tutorials, discussions, competitions, etc.)
  2. Community activities that are academically oriented
  3. Number of student presentations at conventions
  4. Number of nominees for Nolle Scholarships and Benedict Fellowships
  5. Number of student delegates at regional and national conventions
  6. Number of faculty delegates at regional and national conventions
  7. Number of articles accepted for publication in the Recorder

President's Cup Selection Procedure:

  1. In the year of regional conventions, chapters inform regional presidents of their interest in applying for the award.
  2. Regions nominate chapters for the award, with each region allowed one nominee for every 20 chapters in the region. (A region with 1-20 chapters can have one nominee; a region with 21-40 chapters can have two nominees, etc.).
  3. Each competition covers chapter activity for the two years prior to the regional convention, and the year prior to the National Convention.
  4. Nominated chapters should submit their completed application*, which may be in a variety of formats, to the Executive Director no later than the time of registration at the national convention. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee and announced at the closing business session of the national convention.

    * Each nominated chapter should present an application specifically addressing each of these criteria in sequence, devoting a separate section of the application to each criterion, with each section arranged chronically with the most recent year first. The Awards Committee will consider only this specific, detailed information. Although the committee will not evaluate supplementary material such as photographs, news clippings, brochures, scrapbooks, etc., nominated chapters are encouraged bring such material, separated from their applications, for display at the convention.
