National Council Members Elected

 

Four faculty seats on the National Council of Alpha Chi were filled in elections at the 2007 convention in San Antonio. Two first-time members, Dr. David Basena of Bowie State University and Dr. Lori Mills of Milligan College, joined incumbents Dr. Michael Flachmann of California State University, Bakersfield, and Dr. Ann Kneavel of Goldey-Beacom College in winning four-year terms on the 22-member governing board.

 

David Basena is faculty sponsor of Maryland Alpha at Bowie State University, serving since 1997. The chapter has produced four student representatives from Region VI to the National Council and a Benedict scholarship recipient. An associate professor of English with a specialization in linguistics and English grammar, he received a bachelor’s degree from Makerere University in Uganda, an M.A. from St. Cloud State University, and a Ph.D. from Northern Arizona University. Also serves as the graduate program coordinator for the M.A. program in the English department.

 

Lori Mills has been sponsor of the Tennessee Nu chapter at Milligan College since its charter in 1994. She is an associate professor of psychology, holding the Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, and is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and an Adult Psychotherapist.

 

Michael Flachmann has been sponsor of the California Iota chapter at California State University Bakersfield since its founding in 1995. He has served as Region VII President and Vice President and hosted the Region VII convention in 2002. He also won Alpha Chi’s Distinguished Service Award in 2005 and sponsors the convention presentation prize in Shakespeare Prize. A professor of English and director of University Honors Programs, Dr. Flachmann holds the Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.

 

Ann Kneavel  is sponsor of the Delaware Beta chapter at Goldey-Beacom College, which is a past recipient of the President’s Cup as outstanding chapter in Alpha Chi. She has served as Region VI Vice President and President. A professor of English and humanities, she holds the Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa and is the only two-time recipient of Goldey-Beacom's Excellence in Teaching award.
