DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS
The following eleven individuals received the Distinguished
Service Award at the 2005 national convention in St. Louis, Mo.,
April 9. Alpha Chi began giving the award in 2001 to honor the
individuals whose service to the society has been the most influential.
Most of the recipients are current or very recent faculty sponsors
recommended by their respective regional councils. The National
Council of Alpha Chi also recognizes some individuals who have
been retired a longer time from active participation in Alpha
Chi and other friends of the society whose contributions deserve
the designation "distinguished."
Dr. Kenneth Cook--Dr. Cook is a retired professor
at Anderson University, Anderson, Indiana, who served as sponsor
of the Indiana Alpha chapter and as secretary-treasurer of Region
V from 1978 to 1982. His field was chemistry.
Dr. Laura Dickinson--Dr. Dickinson is sponsor of the
Maryland Beta chapter at Capitol College in Laurel, and is in
the Department of General Studies.
Dr. Richard Dilling--Dr. Dilling is long-time sponsor
of the Indiana Gamma chapter at Grace College in Winona Lake,
Indiana. He is in the Department of Mathematics.
Dr. Michael Flachmann--Dr. Flachmann, founding sponsor
of the California Iota chapter at California State University,
Bakersfield, currently serves on the National Council as an at-large
member. He is a professor of English.
Mrs. Kimberly Orr--Mrs. Orr rendered faithful service
over the last several national conventions as coordinator of
computer presentations. She is a member of Alpha Chi and an alumna
of the Texas Omicron chapter at Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Bonnie Revelle--Dr. Revelle was the founding sponsor
of the North Carolina Phi chapter at Chowan College in Murfreesboro.
She also serves currently on the National Council as an at-large
member. Now a pediatrician, her teaching field is biology.
Dr. Laynah Rogers--Dr. Rogers was founding sponsor
of the Missouri Rho chapter at Evangel University in Springfield.
She has led this relatively young chapter to impressive levels
of local, regional, and national activity.
Dr. Duane Rosa--Dr. Rosa, long-time sponsor of the
Texas Zeta chapter at West Texas A&M University, is also
secretary-treasurer of Region I. His field is economics.
Dr. Gayle Webb White--Dr. White has had a remarkable
record of 24 years of service as a member of the National Council,
including terms as secretary, vice president, and president.
For many years she was head sponsor of the Arkansas Theta chapter
at Southern Arkansas University and has remained active in an
assisting role.
Dr. Patricia Williams--Dr. Williams, long-time sponsor
of the Texas Omicron chapter at Sam Houston State University,
served on the National Council from 1991-2003 and was president
1999-2003. She is a professor of education.
Dr. Trisha Yarbrough--The current secretary-treasurer
of Region II, Dr. Yarbrough is professor of English at East Central
University. She is sponsor of the Oklahoma Gamma chapter, winner
the President's Cup as the outstanding chapter in Alpha Chi for
2003-05.
