Distinguished Service Awards 2009

Alpha Chi began giving the Distinguished Service Award in 2001 to honor the individuals whose service to the society has been the most influential. The majority of the recipients are current or very recent faculty sponsors recommended by their respective regional councils. The National Council also may consider individuals now retired but with significant past service to Alpha Chi, or others who have made important contributions to the work of the society. At the 2009 National Convention in Indianapolis, each recipient was awarded an engraved Alpha Chi clock.

Norman Beck--Dr. Beck is the sponsor of the chapter at Texas Lutheran University and a past Region I officer.

Sharon Behl Brooks--Dr. Brooks is the chapter sponsor at Hastings College and a past Region IV officer.

Judy Cheatham--Dr. Cheatham is the sponsor at Greensboro College, a past Region III officer, and a newly-elected at-large member of the National Council.

Gregory A. Clemons--Dr. Clemons is the sponsor at Mars Hill College and Region III President.

Margaret A. FitzGerald--Dr. FitzGerald is the Secretary-Treasurer of Region VI from Pace University.

David K. Jones--Dr. Jones is the chapter sponsor at Westminster College, vice president of Region IV, and newly elected at-large member of the Council.

Alison M. Mostrom--Dr. Mostrom is the sponsor at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

J. William Potter--Prof. Potter is the sponsor of the chapter at Hawaii Pacific University and a past Region VII officer.

Howard A. Smolleck--Dr. Smolleck is the chapter sponsor at New Mexico State University, a past Region I officer, and newly-elected as Alpha Chi’s archivist.

E. Kate Stewart--Dr. Stewart is the sponsor at University of Arkansas at Monticello and a past Region II officer.
