Membership Benefits and Services
Academic Recognition
Members receive recognition as distinguished students and members
of one of the largest college honor societies in the world. All
inductees receive a membership certificate suitable for framing
and a recognition lapel pin (both distributed by chapter sponsor).
Members may also purchase official society jewelry.
Opportunities for Growth
Through involvement in local chapters and at the regional and
national level, members can develop leadership skills and gain
experience in such professional activities as making scholarly
presentations.
Scholarships
Through their chapters, members may compete for Alpha Chi scholarships
and fellowships, including 26 awarded on the national level totaling
more than $60,000 a year. Alpha Chi's regions and some local
chapters also offer additional scholarship programs.
Conventions
Members may attend annual conventions of the society, where they
may give scholarly or creative presentations and participate
in a range of educational and social activities. Top student
presenters can win cash prizes endowed by alumni and other donors.
Federal Pay Grade
If they are employed by the federal government, members can have
their starting salary set at a higher grade than that of nonmembers.
Publications
& Publishing Opportunities
Members may receive Alpha Chi's two periodical publications (distributed
in print form by chapter sponsor and accessible online): the
Recorder, a biannual journal of scholarship of general interest,
and a biannual Newsletter. A small number of students have their
work selected for publication in the Recorder.
Offerings by
Alpha Chi Partners
Members receive special offers or discounts from Alpha Chi's
official partners, including an Alpha Chi credit card issued

for summer internships and academic seminars offered by these
ACHS partners: Washington Internship Institute, The Fund for
American Studies, and the Washington Center for Internships and
Academic Seminars.

Subject to policies of the chapter and the institution, members
may receive special recognition at graduation by wearing Alpha
Chi honor cords, stoles, or medallions.

receive all Alpha Chi publications and invitations to participate
in other programs, including attendance at conventions and competition
for the Pryor Graduate Fellowship.
