Getting Published in the Recorder

Undergraduate IssueAlumni Issue

The Recorder invites submissions from students, sponsors, alumni, and others with a connection to Alpha Chi. The process for submitting your work is outlined here.

Undergraduate Recorder

How to submit material:

  1. A paper or project submitted for national Alpha Chi fellowship and scholarship competition is automatically considered for publication if the author gives permission.
  2. A paper or project presented at an Alpha Chi national or regional convention may be submitted by getting a copy to the editor.
  3. A student member may submit another paper or project directly to the editor, accompanied by a letter from the faculty sponsor.

Editor:
Dr. John E. Williams
Harding University, Box 12249
Searcy, AR 72149-2249

Phone: 501-279-4613
E-mail: jewilliams@harding or alphachi@harding.edu

Subject Matter: Material from all disciplines is invited, including scholarly papers, essays, creative writing, original musical scores, and original art. Among research papers, preference is given to work showing originality of thought.

Deadline: September 1, with publication the following Spring.

Documentation: Papers requiring documentation should be clearly documented in the style appropriate to the discipline of the paper. The editor reserves the right to modify that style in the interest of clarity and uniformity of the journal content.

Format: Papers may be submitted on CD or by e-mail attachment. Fellowship and scholarship applications will be in hard copy, but these students may also supply a CD to the editor. If a student's full paper or project is longer than the editor would be likely to publish, a student may also submit an abridged version (a maximum of about 15 double-spaced pages of text is preferred). The editor reserves the right to edit any paper for length. (Note: Works of art should be submitted in the form of color slides or photographic prints.)

Notification: Students whose work is chosen for publication will be informed by approximately January 1. Only students who submit work directly to the editor (as opposed to submitting through scholarship competition or a convention program) will be notified if their work is not accepted.

Alumni Recorder

How to submit material: The editor invites submission of queries or completed papers from Alpha Chi alumni, faculty, sponsors, other faculty at Alpha Chi schools, and others having some association with the society. The editor often requests material from certain disciplines or on specific themes.

Subject Matter: The Alumni Issue seeks articles that have a scholarly slant but are written for a well-educated general audience rather than academic specialists. Articles are included under departmental headings such as education, humanities, fine arts, behavioral/social sciences, natural sciences, and business. All fields of interest may be included. Book review essays, original art, and creative writing are accepted.

Deadline: Queries or unsolicited articles are invited by July 1 each year, with publication anywhere from September to November.

Documentation: Documentation should be kept to a minimum, following the style appropriate to the discipline. The editor reserves the right to modify that style in the interest of clarity and uniformity of the journal content.

Format: Articles should be submitted by e-mail attachment (MSWord preferred).
