Tips

The Department of Art and Design uses a Macintosh computer lab with the latest software and programs. The majority of design firms and ad agencies do their creative work on Macintosh computers. However, if you have a computer it is not necessary to purchase another one. I you are thinking about buying a computer, wait until your sophomore or junior year, that way your computer won't be "old" when you leave school. If you just can't wait, then get the fastest CPU you can afford with as much RAM memory as you can stuff in it. We primarily use Adobe software (Creative Suite), but research the possibilities of buying as a student to get the maximum student discount pricing. E-mail Daniel Adams, associate professor in graphic design for more up to date information on computer purchasing.

Another important tip to help you prepare for a major in graphic design is this: buy a sketch book and sketch from life as much as you can. Drawing skills are invaluable in design. Always try to improve your sketching abilities. It will help you in developing creative concepts.
