PhotoWe are excited to announce that HU Department of Biology faculty member, Dr. Rebekah (Norman) Rampey (class of '99), will serve as a Howard Hughes Participating Faculty member and collaborate with Dr. Bonnie Bartel in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Rice University (Houston, Texas). Dr. Bartel was recently awarded a 4-year, one million dollar grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to develop a program integrating undergraduate classes with research.

This grant will support the development of a laboratory course at HU (BIOL 371) in which students work on individual research projects in plant molecular biology. In addition, funding is provided for selected Harding students to continue and expand these projects by working with Dr. Bartel at Rice University during the summer semester breaks.

Pre-requisites for applying to work on this project with Dr. Rampey include being enrolled as a student at HU and in good standing with the university and completetion of Genetics (BIOL 315) and Advanced Genetics Lab (BIOL 371).
