Presentation Score and Course
Grade Calculation

Your seminar presentation will be scored according to the criteria listed on the Evaluation Form. Each category will be weighted as detailed on this form. Within a category, each criterion will be weighted according to the value given in parentheses (x) following its description. Go over the Evaluation Form with your advisor before your presentation date.

Your Presentation Score constitutes a portion to your BIOL 440 course grade. It will be calculated from faculty evaluations. An effort will be made to report your Presentation Score to you on the Monday following your seminar. How your Presentation Score and course grade will be calculated are given below.

  • Each faculty member present during your seminar presentation will independently evaluate your performance by completing an Evaluation Form.

  • Faculty scores will be averaged for each criterion, with the following exceptions; the student's seminar advisor will assign scores for category IV on the Evaluation Form, and a subset of faculty will evaluate the format used for the submitted Literature Cited.

  • Your BIOL 440 Course Grade will be issued at the end of your final semester of Biology 440. It will be calculated by deducting the following from your Presentation Score: five (5) points for each unexcused absence accumulated during one semester enrollment in BIOL 140 and three (3) semesters enrollment of BIOL 440; and five (5) points for each unsatisfactory grade ('U') earned during your Journal Club participation; and five (5) points for an MFAT score less than the 40th percentile in appropriate categories for your degree (BIOL: all categories; BCMB: Cell Bio and Molecular Bio/Genetics).
