HU Biology's MVP Award

The HU Biology faculty have steadfastly worked to enlighten students on the importance of scientific literature to all who study and work in the field of biology: future MD's and Ph.D's alike. As a testimony to our students of the importance of the Seminar project they have been assigned, in the Spring of 2000 we established the MVP Award (Most Valuable Presentation). With this award, we hope to encourage our students to embrace the process of science and the methods of relating scientific information, while striving for a high standard of data analysis and presentation and careful attention to scientific style.

When presented, the MVP Award is given to the student who best exemplifies the qualities of an inquisitive independent investigator in the choice, preparation, and presentation of his/her Seminar. Such characteristics include enthusiasm, breadth of understanding, and presentation of a clear and concise scientific argument with overt evidence of preparation and attention to supporting data. If, in the opinion of the faculty, one or more student seminars given during a semester embodies these characteristics, the MVP Award may be presented. Although MVP recipients usually receive high scores for their Seminar presentations, selection is not strongly based on the score received by the student, nor is it based on the Seminar topic.
