Department of Communication

Welcome to the Department of Communication

Jack ShockCommunication is our expertise, and we're happy you've chosen to visit us in this forum. At Harding, we prepare scholars for a world that needs strong guidance in sending life-changing messages. Seven majors in two academic programs make up the department of communication:

The mass communication program puts students in touch with the worlds of journalism, advertising, public relations, electronic media, and Web design and interactive media.

The communication studies program (formerly oral communication) examines interpersonal, organizational, nonverbal, intercultural and rhetorical communication. The program provides students with a variety of career and graduate school opportunities.

I think our faculty is extremely talented. In every area, dedicated professionals present media analyses from a Christian perspective. In addition to providing courses for our students, they lead award-winning media activities such as the school newspaper, yearbook, TV, radio and online news outlets. They supervise in debate and media events across the country, and earn accolades that are rivaled by few schools.

With broad strokes, the department of communication is active in many facets of university and community life. We're proud of the service we can perform, but are more grateful to represent our Master with talents that He has given us. We welcome you to visit us. We have an excellent facility — the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Music and Communication. It is a facility with up-to-date equipment that will help you prepare well for the future.

Join us, and we'll share our hopes and dreams for changing the world through different forms of communication.

Sincerely,
Jack R. Shock, Ed.D.
