Global Outreach at Harding Universtity is a program that exists to train and mentor students to fulfill the will of God to take the Gospel to every nation. This program takes students interested in mission work and allows them to test the waters of sharing Christ in a different culture. Global Outreach facilitates students to "GO" with hopes that God will spark their hearts with a desire to become missionaries and/or missionary supporters in the future. It is our prayer that through these experiences, the eyes of students' hearts will be opened to know what God has put them on this earth to do, and that they will no longer be content unless they are sharing Christ in some way. We hope that the challenges, victories, and friendships made will open our students' eyes to see beyond their own culture and lifestyle, and will teach them about a world that is waiting in anticipation to find out the Good News of Jesus Christ and his salvation.
Summer Mission Trips
A Global Outreach Summer Mission Trip is anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. This type of trip is very servant-oriented, with specific task goals such as teaching English, doing VBS, working with and encouraging churches in the area, painting murals, singing, etc. Summer Mission Trips are led by a faculty member, and are geared toward students who have never been overseas on a mission trip, prefer to go with a specific task to do, or are not open to doing long-term mission work in the future. These trip opportunities spread across the globe--from the Carribean islands to southeast Asia, from Australia to Central America, and there are new locations every year!
A Global Outreach Summer Internship is anywhere from 6 weeks to 8 weeks. This type of trip is about learning as well as serving. Students must go with the heart of both a servant and a learner. Interns do not necessarily have specific tasks like the mission trips, but instead ive with or around missionaries in order to better understand the day-to-day life of an overseas missionary. This trip is about you being trained and mentored by people who are already on the field, and is a much more intensive trip than the Summer Mission Trips. There are no faculty members that lead these groups, only students. Just like any other type of internship, a missions internship is for those interested in being missionaries, and are geared towards students who are open to being cross-cultural missionaries in the future, especially if they have already done overseas mission work.
