An introductory survey of the plant kingdom from prokaryotes to the flowering plants. Topics discussed include the identification, classification, life histories, and the importance of plants.
The history and basic principles of identifying, naming and classifying plants. Laboratory work stresses the structural characteristics of vascular plant families and the use of field manuals in identifying components of the local flora.
The fundamental interactions between organisms and their environment which
determine their distribution and abundance.
