Biodiesel Processor Project

Team Members: Stephen Huffard, Andrew Masters, Mark Simmons, Taylor Williams

Project Description:
With today's increasing demand for fuel and its continually rising cost, Biodiesel is becoming an extremely attractive fuel option. Also, to deal with the problems of pollution, there is a need for alternative fuels in today's society. Biodiesel, as an alternative fuel, has low emissions during use and manufacture, and it even reduces the carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.

Our project involved making a machine that can produce biodiesel. Our processor uses three ingredient containers (vegetable oil, methanol, and lye), one tank for preparing methoxide, one processing tank, and one tank for washing, water storage, and biodiesel storage. A typical run takes approximately 36 hours. The entire processor is contained within a mobile steel frame. Also, all necessary electricity is supplied from any 120VAC wall outlet.
