The Jo Cleveland Creative Writing Contest
Named after a beloved English teacher who encouraged creativity and critical thinking, this contest is sponsored by the English Department and directed by John Williams, with faculty members acting as judges in three categories: Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction. The contest is open to all Harding University and Academy students. A banquet is held in honor of the winners, who also receive small cash awards. Each year following the banquet, the guests hear from a published writer who reads and offers advice. Contest Rules. You can e-mail Dr. Williams or reach him at 279-4613.

Dr. Jon Singleton's "The Dissonant Bible Quotation: Political and Narrative Dissension in Gaskell's Mary Barton"
Harding Assistant Professor of English, Jon Singleton, has an essay appearing in the winter issue of English Literary History (ELH). The issue will be published December 6. Dr. Singleton's special interests are Victorian literature and theology. Click on the link above to read his essay.

Harding alumnus Sadie Bullard has just published "Narrative Dualism in C. S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength" in Mythlore 29.3/4 (Spring/Summer 2011):11-24. Her study grew out of a paper written for Dr. Larry Hunt's C. S. Lewis course. Click on the link above to read the article.
