Throughout the year our office receives scholarship announcements from various charitable foundations and non-profit organizations.  This page is used as an electronic bulletin board for scholarship announcements and updated upon receipt of new information. 

2009-10 Scholarship Announcements

TYLENOL SCHOLARSHIP

Training qualified people to work in health-related fields is critical to achieving America's high standards of healthcare.   That is why Tylenol will continue its annual scholarship program.  In 2009, scholarship awards will total $250,000 to outstanding students pursuing health-related studies.  Applications can be found at www.tylenol.com/scholarship using the keyword TYNL.  Application deadline is May 15, 2009.

ASSOCIATED WOMEN FOR HARDING SCHOLARSHIP

. These need-based scholarships are for incoming freshmen for the Fall 2009 year and will be awarded in the fall. Deadline for the scholarship application is May 1, 2009.

1. Available for first year students, preference given to those who are single.
2. Based on proven financial need as determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Consideration will be given to both non-Pell and Pell eligible students who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. {It is extremely important that you fill out the Student Aid information and send it in quickly.}
3. Applicant must be a faithful member of the church of Christ.
4. Student must make application and be accepted to Harding University.
5. The Associated Women for Harding (AWH) Scholarship applicant must meet all requirements. (If all requirements are not met the application cannot be considered.)
6. Scholarships are made in varying sizes according to proven need. (One half of the scholarship is given at the beginning of each semester.)
7. Student must remain in acceptable academic and social standing to receive the second semester funds.
8. Application deadline is May 1. Only applications postmarked by the March 1 deadline will be considered.
9. Three (3) letters of recommendation must be submitted. Please include a list of those asked to provide this letter, along with a daytime phone number for contact purposes.

Letters may be from church members, school faculty, employers or friends of the family who have known you for at least 3 years. Please try to have one, if possible, from an AWH member who knows you. No family members, please. Letters of recommendation should all address worthiness and need. These letters must be sent directly to: Harding University, Liz Howell, Box 10768, Searcy, AR 72149-0001 

ARKANSAS ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT FINANCIAL AID ADMINISTRATORS SCHOLARSHIP

AASFAA will, again, offer at least two $500 scholarships to Arkansas students this fall.  These are non-renewable awards.  Scholarship winners will be selected at a random drawing during the 2009 Spring AASFAA Conference in April.   Winners must be enrolled at least half time in 2009-2010 in a program that leads to a college degree or certificate at an AASFAA member institution.  An application form is available for download and must be printed, completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office for submission to AASFAA.  The deadline for applications is April 8, 2009.

HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND SCHOLARSHIP

Last year the Hispanic College Fund (HCF) awarded $1.8 million to over 615 students nationwide.  HCF Scholars not only benefit from funding, but also from joining a powerful network of HCF Scholars, coporate executives and government leaders vested in developing the next generation of Hispanic professionals. 

HCF Scholars include some of the nation's top college students studying business, finance, engineering and the sciences.  Applications and regulations for the 2009-10 school year are available on the web at www.hispanicfund.org/scholarships.php and the application deadline is March 15, 2009.

NASA MUST SCHOLARSHIP

The MUST Program supports the best and brightest students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines during the early years of their college education while enriching their learning with the MUST Professional Academic Support System (MUST PASS), an academic enrichment, mentoring and career development system.  Scholars participate in exciting research opportunities at NASA Centers that will help broaden their career horizons.  Students from underrepresented groups in STEM are encouraged to apply.  Applications are available at http://scholarships.hispanicfund.org/applications.

FAITH AND EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Faith and Education Scholarship Fund is pleased to offer annually, two one-year $5,000 scholarships. The F&E Scholarship is available for active Church of Christ members who are pursuing their undergraduate education at a liberal arts university.  The application and other relevant paperwork must be downloaded from the "apply" section of www.faithandeducation.org.  Application deadline is March 6, 2009

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE

The Community Foundation Scholarship Program is made up of different scholarship funds established by individuals, firms, or organizations wanting to assist individuals pursuing of college education.  Scholarships Funds have been set up to benefit students from a particular geographic area or school attending certain post-secondary institutions, or entering certain fields of study.  

Applications are available at www.cfmt.org and the deadline for application is March 15, 2009.

MINORITY IN GOVERNMENT FINANCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship.  This scholarship competition is for minority students of public administration (government) accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management) at the upper-division undergraduate or graduate level.  One scholarship of $5,000 is available for award in 2009.  Candidates should have a superior record of academic achievement and/or job performance and show promise of completion of their undergraduate or graduate program at a high level of performance.  In addition, candidates should have plans to pursue a career in state or local government.  Applications and additional information are available under "Scholarships" at www.gfoa.org.  All applications must be received no later than February 28, 2009.  The winner will be informed, and the award publicly announced, by May 2, 2009.

GEORGE A. NIELSEN PUBLIC INVESTOR SCHOLARSHIP

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the George A. Nielson Public Investor Scholarship competition.  This scholarship competition is for student who have been admitted on a full or part-time basis to an undergraduate or graduate program in public administration, finance, business administration or a related field.  A scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded in 2009.  Candidates should have a superior record of academic achievement and/or job performance and show promise of completion of their undergraduate or graduate program at a high level of performance.  In addition, candidates should have plans to pursue a career in state or local government.  Applications and additional information are available under "Scholarships" at www.gfoa.org.  All applications must be received no later than February 28, 2009.  The winner will be informed, and the award publicly announced, by May 2, 2009.

FRANK L. GREATHOUSE GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship.  This scholarship competition is for student who have been admitted on a full or part-time basis to an undergraduate or graduate program preparing for a career in state or local government finance in the United States or Canada.  Undergraduate students must be in the process of completing at least their junior year by the time the scholarship is awarded.  One or more scholarships of $3,500 each is available for award in 2009.  Candidates should have a superior record of academic achievement and/or job performance and show promise of completion of their undergraduate or graduate program at a high level of performance.  In addition, candidates should have plans to pursue a career in state and local government or in government accounting or public administration.  Applications and additional information are available under "Scholarships" at www.gfoa.org.  All applications must be received no later than February 28, 2009.  The winner will be informed, and the award publicly announced, by May 2, 2009.

SALLIE MAE $2 MILLION DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Sallie Mae Fund announced that its scholarship season is now open and invites students attending college in the fall to apply for more than $2 million in scholarships it will award for the 2009-10 school year.  Application, elgibility and deadline information are now available at www.salliemaefund.org.

JOHN GYLES EDUCATION AWARD SCHOLARSHIP

The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United States.  They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990.  Full Canadian and American citizenship is a requirement.  Awards are available to both male and female students for areas of post secondary study.  A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required.  Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process.  Selected students will receive up to $3,000.  The deadline for application is June 1, 2009.  Applications are available online at www.johngyleseducationcenter.com.

APOGEE SEARCH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

One undergraduate or graduate student will be awarded this scholarship in recognition of his or her best marketing idea.  For rules and how to submit your essay, please visit http://www.apogee-search.com/scholarship/rules.html.  Deadline for submission is July 31, 2009.

AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

The American Chemical Society is now receiving applications for the 2009-2010 academic year.  The ACS awards scholarships in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, material science and environmental science. 

The scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences.  The ACS program will award approximately 100 scholarships to undergraduate students interested in four-year degrees in the chemical sciences.  High school seniors who will be entering college are also eligible.  The scholarship is valued at up to $2,500 per academic year for freshmen, and up to $3,000 per academic year for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
