Academic Scholarships
Eligibility for Academic Scholarships
Eligibility for academic scholarships is based on your top ACT or SAT score, as well as final high school GPA. Academic scholarships listed may not be combined with other Harding-funded scholarship aid for which you qualify. However, these scholarships may be combined with any state or non-institutionally funded scholarship aid received, not to exceed your full cost of tuition, technology fees, and standard costs for room and board. Recipients must live on campus to receive any scholarship funding in excess of tuition and fees.
National Merit Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshmen that are National Merit Semi-Finalists and have selected Harding University as their first-choice university with the National Merit Corporation. The minimum award for this scholarship is full tuition. Award recipients must maintain a cumulative college GPA of 3.25.
Trustee Scholarship
Awarded to the top 30 incoming freshmen, as determined by an admission interview. All applicants with a minimum score of 31 on the ACT or 1330 on the SAT and a 3.50 high school GPA or better are invited to interview for this scholarship. The award amount is full tuition. Award recipients must reside on campus and maintain a cumulative college GPA of 3.25.
Academic Achievement Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshman applicants with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and an ACT composite of 22 or higher or an SAT total score of 1020 or higher. Awardees must be enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester. Award amounts given for eight (8) semesters of eligibility. Award recipients must maintain a cumulative college GPA of 3.0.
Stephens Freshman Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshman applicants with an ACT composite of 22 or higher or an SAT total score of 1020 or higher, and with eligibility for a need-based Federal Pell Grant. The award amount is $1,500.
Transfer Student Scholarship
Awarded to transferring students (transferring more than 14 hours) meeting select criteria and beginning at $1,500 per year. Award recipients must maintain a cumulative college GPA of 3.0.
Non-Academic Discounts
A limited number of students qualify for non-academic discounts based on athletic ability or affiliation with selected organizations. Should a student be eligible for multiple discounts, only the highest discount will apply. Discounts of less than 50% may be combined with an academic scholarship, though not to exceed full tuition. Discounts of 50% or greater may not be combined with an academic scholarship, except where noted.
Athletic Scholarship Discounts
Athletic scholarship discounts are available to outstanding athletic contracted players, with the maximum award equivalent to pay full tuition, technology fees, room, board, and books. Full athletic discounts will be reduced by the amount of any other grant or scholarship aid received, except for federal Pell Grant awards.
Christian College Employee Discount
Awarded to selected full-time (minimum of 12 hours) students of Christian college employees, as certified by letter from the administrator of the school. The school must be affiliated with the churches of Christ and a length of service of at least one year is required. Award amount: 50% tuition. Award may not be combined with an academic scholarship.
Christian Ministers Discount
Awarded to selected full-time (minimum of 12 hours) students who are children of full-time church of Christ Ministers. Beginning with the fall 2005 semester, new undergraduate (freshman or transfer) students will receive at 25 percent tuition discount. This discount may be combined with an academic scholarship, though it may not exceed full tuition. To qualify, ministry or youth ministry must be the full-time (40-hour) paid vocation for at least one parent. That parent must have been employed as a minister at least one year prior to receiving the discount. A verification letter signed by two elders of the respective congregation must be sent to the Admissions Office. Returning or former Harding students or graduate students are not eligible.
Christian Missionary Discount
Awarded to unmarried dependents of Christian missionaries serving outside the United States. A letter must be received annually from an elder of the sponsoring church of Christ congregation giving the current status of the parents. Award amount: 25% tuition, and may not be combined with other non-academic discounts. Award may be combined with an academic scholarship, and awardees must be enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester.
Christian Orphan Discount
Awarded to unmarried residents of a Christian children’s home associated with the churches of Christ, as certified by an administrator of the home. Award amount: 50% tuition. Award may not be combined with an academic scholarship, and awardees must be enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester.
Christian School (K-12) Discount
Awarded to selected full-time (minimum of 12 hours) students of Christian school (K-12) employees, as certified by letter from the administrator of the school. A length of service of at least one year is required. The school must be affiliated with the churches of Christ and a member of the National Christian School Association (NCSA). Award amount: 25% tuition. This discount may be combined with an academic scholarship, though it may not exceed full tuition.
Harding Academy/University Discounts
Awarded to Harding University and Harding Academy employees and their children. Apply by submitting a Tuition Discount Application to Harding University's Office of Human Resources. This award may be combined with academic scholarships at the same discounted percentage rate that tuition is calculated.
School of Biblical Studies Discount
Awarded to students enrolled in Harding University's School of Biblical Studies program. Award amount: 100% tuition for selected courses. Award may not be combined with academic scholarships.
Tuition Exchange Discounts
Harding University is a member of Tuition Exchange and offers a 100% tuition discount for one year to qualified children of faculty and staff employed at another Tuition Exchange college or university. Awardees must be first-time in college freshmen. Award may not be combined with academic scholarships.
Restricted/Endowed
The Harding Grant and Harding academic scholarships are funded by the generosity of friends and alumni of Harding University. A limited number of funds are available based on restricted criteria, such as awards to benefit students from certain regions of the country. Students that meet the application requirements, based on admission data, are contacted throughout the year and encouraged to apply for restricted/endowed funding. However, all students are encouraged to review the Endowed Scholarship Information and Application page for a listing of all available scholarships, including application deadlines and award criteria.

Several Internet scholarship search engines deliver an abundance of information on national scholarships. Both Fast Web and College Answer provide excellent search options.
Scholarship Electronic Bulletin Board
Another source for national scholarship information is the Financial Aid Services Office. Throughout the year our office receives scholarship announcements from various charitable foundations and non-profit organizations. These announcements are posted to the Scholarship Announcement Electronic Bulletin Board.
