Federal Stafford Loan
Stafford Loan for All Students Each year, the following loan amounts are available to all eligible U.S. Citizen / permanent resident students:
Freshmen: $3,500
Sophomores: $4,500
Juniors: $5,500
Seniors: $5,500
Graduate Students: $8,500
If you and/or your family demonstrates financial need, all or a portion of the above funds may be "subsidized" (interest paid) by the federal government during periods of enrollment. Funds are generally subject to a 3% origination fee, however some lenders offer loans with 0% fees. Repayment begins six months following graduation at a fixed rate of 6.8%. Repayment incentives and other benefits are available from all Stafford loan lenders recommended by Harding.
In addition to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, you must complete the following online Stafford loan counseling to apply for a Federal Stafford loan. After all necessary information has been received, and you are awarded this loan, you will be instructed to return to this Web to complete the online Federal Loan Application.
Supplemental Stafford Loan for Independent* / Graduate Students
In addition to Stafford loan amounts listed above, independent* and graduate students may request supplemental unsubsidized funds according to the following schedule:
Freshmen & Sophomores: $4,000
Juniors & Seniors: $5,000
Graduate Students: $10,000

* An undergraduate student is considered independent if he/she is married, over the age of 24, or an orphan or U.S. veteran. Graduate students are automatically considered independent.
