With 15 years experience of teaching detail painting, Leaf has developed an easy way for beginners to do beautiful flower painting to show the beauty of every detail in flowers using water colors. Decorating a beautiful cake is fun and an easy skill that you can enjoy sharing with family and friends.  This is a one-time beginning class where you will learn some basic techniques, and then it will take practice, practice, practice to develop your skills. You will learn simple decorating techniques such as borders, basket-weave, Cornelia lace, writing on a cake, and flowers and leaves.  You will also learn the basics of doing a character cake, which is popular for children's birthday parties.  All supplies will be furnished for this class; each student will receive some icing tips to keep. *There will be a $20 supply fee which is to be paid to the instructor. Plan to join us for a morning of fun as you learn the basics of a skill that will bring enjoyment in years to come!

SPANISH I FOR BEGINNERS                                                                                                     $89*

Description: Do you work with Spanish-speaking people?  Have you struggled when trying to communicate with Spanish-speaking friends and neighbors in your community?  Is your church planning a mission trip to a Spanish-speaking country?  Learning Spanish is a great asset for anyone in our society today.  This class is designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of conversational Spanish and grammar.  Topic examples include saying hello and goodbye, introductions, family and home, food, weather, telling time, pronunciation rules, and simple sentence structure.  Classes will involve speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice to help establish a basic working knowledge of the Spanish language.  Each lesson is designed to build upon the previous class lesson. A $10 lab fee will be collected the first night of class to cover the cost of the workbook.

Want to learn how to use the top photo-editing software? Meet with us to learn the tools that can improve your images with the latest version of Adobe Photoshop CS4. You will learn about each of the tools to enable you to navigate, layer, straighten, mask, filter, print, color correct, dodge/burn, extract, liquefy, retouch/restore, automate (actions/batch), calibrate monitors, sharpen, soften, and part-swap. We can't cover everything in this 101 -- but stay tuned for a later "201!" Mike James -- He is a master photographer and editor, and has worked with Photoshop since 1995, starting with version 3! An additional $10 lab/printing fee will be collected by the instructor the first night of class.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT                                                                                                         $69

Participants explore how to approach conflict, communicate during conflict, and resolve conflict situations. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument will be incorporated to understand the five conflict-handling modes. Techniques and guidance on effectively using each of the five modes are discussed.

IMPROVING YOUR PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS                                                               $89/$150

This seminar is designed to take your personal relationships to the next level of depth and understanding. It is designed to help couples, families, and dating relationships extend their depth of interpersonal understanding and appreciation. The seminar focuses on the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator (MBTI) as a foundation for the seminar. You will discover individual strengths and weaknesses of each personality preference

 and how these personality preferences affect relationships.

SO YOU WANT TO SEW                                                                                                              $69

Have you always wanted to learn the basics of sewing, but never knew what to ask? Or has it been a long time since you had time to sew? This class will teach you:

  • How to set up a "little" corner for your sewing center.
  • The basic needs for sewing
  • Correct pattern cutting and how and what to mark on patterns...grain of fabric, etc.
  • Stay stitching, proper seaming, darts, hems, adding waistbands, gathers, etc.
  • How to make a garment (You will complete a sewing project in this class)

Kaye has almost fifty years of sewing experience and still enjoys "making" and adding her own personal touch to gifts, crafts, and home accents. By the end of the four weeks, each person will have completed a project. *Each student will need to bring their own sewing machine to class.

BEGINNING SMOCKING                                                                                                              $35*

Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. - Noon

Smocking is a centuries-old art that adds a creative accent to clothing.  Most of the class time will be spent on English smocking, including reading a smocking plate, learning basic smocking stitches, and bullion roses. You will also be introduced to the art of working with silk ribbon embroidery.  You will need to bring a pair of small scissors to cut thread.  All other basic supplies will be provided; students will be given information about where to purchase additional supplies if they choose. This is a one-time class where you will learn the basics of beginning smocking.  Because smocking takes practice, there will be a short follow-up class sometime in November for students to ask more questions, show their work, and receive help with any problems they may encounter. * A $20 lab fee will be collected by the instructor at the beginning of class; this is in addition to the class fee.

We will begin with something simple like a dishcloth or potholder. We will advance to a beautiful hand-made scarf to wear this winter. By the time this class is over, you will be well on your way to having an afghan finished for Christmas. *An additional $10 lab fee will be collected by the instructor the first night of class.

This course for beginners will cover everything from start to finish that you need to know - from choosing a pattern and fabric to putting on binding. We will touch on everything from small wall hangings to a king-size quilt.

Mondays, 7-9 p.m., begins Oct. 5 (four weeks)

Come and discover how to creating one-of-a-kind necklaces and earrings. Every piece is as quick and easy to make as it is to view. You'll use a variety of beads and wires - gemstones, pearls, sterling silver, wire, leather and more. We will start with affordable tools and supplies. I can teach you using my tools, and then you can buy your own. Anyone one can do it! You will actually make something to wear during the first class. Books with lots of ideas will also be available to use.
