Homecoming

Homecoming 2009 is October 29 - 31.

Don't let the rain keep you away.  We have moved outdoor events inside.

Make plans to come to Harding for Homecoming 2009. Call your friends and make sure they will join you. The Classes of ’59, ’54, ’49 and ‘44 will be inducted into the Golden, Emerald, Platinum and Platinum-Plus Circles at the Heritage Circle Banquet and will reunite throughout the weekend with several activities.. More reunions are being finalized, and it is not too late for your group to reconnect. More information will be posted at www.harding.edu/homecoming.  

Relive the memories and celebrate as the outstanding and distinguished alumni are honored at  the Black and Gold Banquet.

One of the highlights of the weekend is Alumni Chapel. Visit the Harding History House and learn more about the men and women who sacrificed and dedicated their lives for Christian education at Harding.

8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Registration. Heritage lobby in front of the alumni office.

9: 45 a.m. - 2 p.m. Registration for Bison Stampede 5 K Run, Hammon Student Center, contact J.D. Yingling, 501.279.4756 ($15)

1 - 4 p.m. Harding History House, 205 N. Lott Tucker Drive

5:30 p.m.  Heritage Circle Banquet in the Founders Room, second floor of the Heritage Center. Golden, Emerald, Platinum and Platinum Plus Circles Induction and Reunion will honor the Classes of '59, '54, '49, '44 and '39. This year's inductees will receive two free tickets. Other members of the Heritage Circle (Golden, Emerald, Platinum and Platinum Plus) are invited and may purchase tickets ($13) to attend the banquet.

7 p.m. Lady Bisons Volleyball vs. University of Arkansas-Monticello in a Gulf South Conference match at Rhodes Fieldhouse. 

7:30 p.m. Tamera Alexander: Reading and Remarks about her work followed by Q&A and book signing. Tamera Alexander is a Harding alumna and the best-selling author of Rekindled, Revealed and Remembered, the critically acclaimed Fountain Creek Chronicles historical series with Bethany House Publishers. Tamera's deeply drawn characters, thought-provoking plots, and poignant prose have earned her devoted readers-and multiple industry awards.Sponsored by the HU English Department. Friday, October 30

Bison Booster Golf Tournament canceled

8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Registration. Heritage lobby in front of the alumni office.

Bison Daze For high school Juniors or Seniors (only) who may be coming with family members for Homecoming and would like to participate in Bison Daze, they may want to log on to www.harding.edu/admissions and click on the "Bison Daze" link for all the details.

9 a.m. Chapel -Make plans to attend chapel in the Benson Auditorium followed by Heritage Circle Coffee in Room 236 in the Student Center. Reconnect with your classmates and relive the memories and stay as long as you wish.

Noon - 12:50 p.m.  Open Chorus Rehearsal - Reynolds M106 - All choral alumni are welcome to hear the Chorus during their rehearsal time.

5:30 p.m. Black and Gold Banquet - A wonderful evening to remind you of your favorite Harding memories celebrated with some of your favorite Harding heroes. Dr. Cliff Ganus Jr. will emcee the Black and Gold Banquet honoring Harding's outstanding and distinguished alumni. Dinner music by the Harding String Quartet. Charles White Cafeteria ($16)

8 p.m. Homecoming Musical - Scrooge - Benson Auditorium. ($10, $12 and $15) Join the cast, crew and orchestra following the play for complimentary coffee in the student center.

9 a.m. - Alumni Chapel will feature Dr. Don England as the keynote speaker and  inspirational singing led by descendants of Andy T. Ritchie Jr. -Heritage Auditorium. Remember the songs and share the memories of chapel with other alumni.

10 - 11:30 a.m. College of Sciences Reunion and Reception: A Symposium of Faith and Science (Pryor-England 123) Join us for a reunion and symposium during Homecoming honoring Bill Rushton and Dr. Bill Hefley.  Dr. Kevin Stewart ('97), assistant professor of chemistry at Harding University, is the keynote speaker and will speak about "Science and Education:  Where Does the Christian Parent Fit in?" Several former faculty members and others plan to attend. This will be a great opportunity to pay tribute to these inspirational teachers and become acquainted with the outstanding newer faculty. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Department of Art & Design will be open from for alumni to stroll through their old classrooms, visit with the teachers, run into old, and not so old, friends, and view a faculty art exhibit in the two galleries. Refreshments will be served.

10 -11 a.m. Band Alumni Reception - Reynolds Center Band Hall

10 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. Inflatable Games and Petting Zoo -  

Inflatable Games will be inside the Ganus Athletic Center Fun for the Harding family. A petting zoo featuring farm animals and pony rides will be on the west side of the Ganus Athletic Center on the parking lot.

10 - 11:30 a.m. College of Nursing Reunion and Reception

10 a.m. - Noon  Interior Design Alumni Tea (Room 202 - Art Building) hosted by the ASID (American Society of Interior Design) Harding University student chapter.

10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Harding History House - 205 Lott Tucker Drive (next to Almost Anything)

10 - 11:30 a.m.   Pictures in a Harding swing near the Bell Tower.  Capture the memories with your friends and family with photos from the front lawn. In case of inclement weather, pictures will be taken in the Heritage Lobby. 

10 - 10:45 a.m. Belles and Beaux - Administration Auditorium

10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. A free shuttle is available for transportation to and from the Ganus Athletic Center and the Heritage Center at the Market Street entrance.

11 a.m. - Noon  Belles and Beaux 50th Year Reunion for all former members - Reynolds Center Choral Hall.  Bring memories and memorabilia.

11 - 11:45 a.m. Pied Pipers Children's Theatre - Reynolds Center Recital Hall

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Harding Authors with award-winning Harding alumna, Tamera Alexander, and Faculty Favorites Display - In front of the Harding University Bookstore

Class reunions are for everyone! If you want to visit with a class that is celebrating, please stop by - the more the merrier! Inside Ganus Athletic Center

11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. Classes of: '39, '44, '49, '54, '59, '64, '69, '74, '79,'84, '89, '94, ‘99 and ‘04 will meet at the Family Picnic. Signs denoting class years will be posted at the picnic. Golden and Platinum Circle classes will be seated inside the gym. Other classes will be seated outside weather permitting. ($8.75 adults, $4.50 for children 6 - 11) Families may use current student's meal plan. Children under 6 eat for free with parent.

11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Harding Expo - Ganus Athletic Center. Visit the booths for information and items for sale from departments, groups and social clubs on campus. 

11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. Harding Family Picnic and Giant Tailgate Celebration  Inside the GAC Signs will be provided denoting reunion class years.

X-Treme Tailgating - Choose your spot at First Security Stadium under the beautiful pecan trees on the west side of the GAC. Bring your grills, black and gold décor and Bison spirit to create the ultimate outdoor dining experience before the game. Invite friends and current students to join you. Don't want to cook? ARAMARK will be grilling burgers and hot dogs.

2 p.m. Bison Football The Bisons play Henderson State University at First Security Stadium in a big Gulf South Conference football game. (Reserved seats, $10 and general admission, $7)

More Reunions and Activities after the football game ...

Trunk or Treat -- The Student Association is planning a fun activity for small children on the west side of the Ganus Athletic Center.  Don't forget your costumes!   Please bring a couple of bags of candy to help those who are serving. Please note the pony rides and petting zoo are from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Sorry for the confusion.

Harding Choral Groups Alumni Reunion - Get together after the game to meet, greet, eat, and SING with people who loved singing while at Harding. All chorus groups are invited. It will be at the home of Paul and Joli Love, 605 E. Race Ave., across the street from Sexton Foods.

Chi Omega Pi Reunion - Founders Room 4 - 6 p.m. ($10, $20 includes T-shirt)

Football and Cheerleader Alumni and their families are invited to meet immediately following the game for chili & fellowship at the lobby of the Ganus Athletic Center. Come get some supper & visit with your old Bison buddies before going to the next event!

7 p.m. Lacrosse Alumni Scrimmage (Soccer Field)

9 p.m. We are proud to present a special HU Homecoming Screening of Joe Aaron's most recent project "Crazy Jones."  Joe is HU Communication Dept.'s Outstanding Alumunus for this year.  Heritage Auditorium  ($5 at the door) Joe will be present to visit with people before and after the show!

All events are free admission unless denoted by a ticket price.
