Retirement ServicesTIAA-CREF has agreed to provide retirement planning services for qualified ministers and employees of churches of Christ who desire to be a part of this program through Harding University. Harding will begin the program this fall and will advertise it widely among churches of Christ. Church employees will be able to begin to invest in January 2005. Ministers will be entitled to benefits similar to those of Harding faculty members who are in the TIAA-CREF program. Three plans are available. The Ministerial Retirement Plan (MRP) is designed for churches that wish to contribute 3 to 10 percent of their minister’s salary toward that minister’s retirement, without contribution by the minister required. The Non-ministerial Retirement Plan (NRP) is designed for churches that wish to contribute 3 to 10 percent of their staff member’s salary toward that staff members retirement, without contribution by the staff member required. The Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA) allows all church employees to contribute toward their own retirement. There is a limit of $13,000 per year (the maximum for 2004). Ideally, churches will elect to participate for all their employees, and the employees will choose to also participate on their own. When that happens, there will be two sources of retirement income. The Institute for Church & Family will provide the leadership for this program.
