Student Impact

General Information

When will it be?

Student Impact 2008 will be August 21-24.

What activities are available for Parents?

There will be an informative session for parents. Dr. David Burks, president of Harding University, will speak with the parents, as will the deans and another guest speaker. Parents will also hear from current students who will answer questions and offer their views of Harding. There will also be a free dinner provided for the parents.

Housing and Meals

Housing in university residence halls is available for students only.  Since students are moving into the rooms they were assigned for the fall semester, there are none available for parents or friends.  Parents may contact the Heritage Inn toll-free at 1 888-766-2465 to make their own arrangements.

The cafeteria will be open to Impact participants beginning Friday at breakfast and will serve three meals a day.

CLEP Exams

Due to a change in testing format, the CLEP test will be offered by computer in the fall. Check with the testing office (Mabee 206) after school begins to set up a time.

For more information, contact the Testing and Research Office, HU Box 12250, Searcy, AR 72149. They can be reached by phone at 501-279-4415.

Advantages of Harding's STUDENT IMPACT

Although Student Impact is not required, there are several advantages in attending:

  • You will become acquainted with other new students. You will have an opportunity to meet new friends, as well as teachers, with whom you will spend the next four years.
  • You will get to experience college life for the first time, and will not be pressed into your first days of classes immediately upon arriving. You'll have those days to meet people, learn about and experience Harding life, and prepare yourself for when classes do begin.
  • You will learn about student and academic organizations on campus, service projects, clubs, student association, and other activities and opportunities for involvement at Harding.

CHORAL IMPACT

Harding has a strong and active choral program, and auditions for the Chorus and the Concert Choir will take place during Student Impact.  If you intend to audition for one of these groups, select the Choral Impact option when you register.  For more information about Harding's choral program, go to www.harding.edu/music and click the ensembles link.

How much does it cost?

Student Impact costs is $95. This amount will be charged directly to the student's account when he or she arrives on campus and signs up for Student Impact. This money will cover all meals, a Student Impact T-shirt, a freshman record book with pictures of all the new students, and a source book with a daily student planner. Do not plan on bringing money to pay; charges are placed directly on the students account! Students must cancel their Impact registration before August 21st in order to receive a refund.
