Harding University in Zambia (HIZ)HIZ is conducted every Fall. The goal of this program is to help students understand the missionary needs of Africa while experiencing Zambia first hand. Students live in a compound that holds the George S. Benson Teachers College as well as an elementary and high school, medical clinic, orphanage, and a "haven" for infants and toddlers who have lost their mothers to AIDS. The classes offered relate directly to the world the students have entered. Students have Tonga lessons, African history and African literature, and listen to several guest lecturers, including a converted witch doctor. Students take a tour of East Africa where they have the opportunity to go on a safari, tour Victoria Falls and Lake Victoria, travel through Kenya, and stop at mission points all along the way. Due to the nature of the program, students must go through a screening process before they are accepted.
