The Reason Why
Greetings, Book lovers! I am a Bibliophile by nature and an
historian by trade. There are two Bibliophiles who currently live
in this house which is being slowly -- or not so slowly -- overrun by
books. This is my summer break, and I am embarking on several
projects because I cannot stand to be bored. I tell my students
to always check the credentials behind the web-sites they use, so I
must include my own. I have a Ph.D. in British
History and have an undergraduate minor in English. I teach
history and geography at the University level and my husband
writes science fiction. I have been a reader since before
kindergarten and I adore books. My love of the printed word
is part of most things that I do. My husband calls me a
blue-stocking -- from the 18th century term to denote a woman of
quality who read too much. Then it was an insult, I wear now as a
badge of affection from him and a badge of honor to the rest of
society.
Part of my reason for this site is periodic request that I get
for recommendations on books -- sometimes from friends with children,
and other times from book lovers or former students. So --
in conjunction with my husband -- this page contains reviews,
recommendations and lists of the books we find interesting or
useful.
