What are my library checkout privileges?
With your Harding University faculty ID, you may check out items from Brackett Library until the end of each semester. Exceptions to this rule include software and multimedia (videos, cassettes, CDs, etc.), which have a checkout period of 3 days, juvenile books, which have a checkout period of 7 days, and reserve items, which have varying checkout periods.
While we are more than happy to offer an extended checkout period to faculty members, this privilege can on occasion prevent other patrons from being able to find the resources they need. In order to ensure that all patrons have access to research resources, the library reserves the right to recall items that have been requested by another patron. Please help us serve our students and maintain special faculty privileges by returning recalled items as soon as possible!
If an item you need is checked out, you may place it on hold by logging in to "My Library Account" from the library website, searching the catalog for the item you need, clicking on "Loan/Hold Requests", and placing your request. You will be informed by email or a written notice when this item is returned.

How do I place items on reserve for my students?
Our library reserve system has proven to be an effective way for faculty members to provide their students with access to books, articles, recordings, term paper examples, class notes, etc. In order to place items on reserve for your students, please follow these guidelines:
Before placing items on reserve, please be certain that you are within the guidelines of fair use and do not need to acquire copyright permissions. The Copyright Protection Slider is an easy-to-use, online tool to assist you in making this decision.
Bring the items you need placed on reserve to the Circulation Desk in the library. Include a copy of the course syllabus. You may place library-owned resources or your own personal resources on reserve. The library is not responsible for making copies of items to be placed on reserve, so if you would like more than one copy of an article on reserve, please have your copies ready when you bring your reserve items to the library.
Items placed in reserve folders will also be scanned and made available electronically. Because of this new option, it will not be necessary to bring more than 3 copies of any item for reserve folders.
Fill out a Library Reserve Request Form with all pertinent information about your reserve items. You may obtain this form at the Circulation Desk. If you send reserve items to the library with another individual, please be sure to send a copy of this form with all pertinent information filled out as well. Remember that the title you write on the form for your reserve item will be the title students will see as they search for reserves in the online catalog, so please use the same title you use in your syllabus.Your reserves will be processed and ready to be checked out within 5 working days. Students can find the call number for any reserve item by clicking on the "Course Reserves" link on the library homepage and searching by department, professor, or course number.
Note: Please remember that items placed on reserve are subject to copyright guidelines. If you would like to place a former student's work on reserve for your current students to see, please obtain written permission from the author of the work.

How do I obtain items not held at Brackett Library?
If Brackett Library does not hold items you need, we offer two services that will help you obtain items held in libraries throughout the world:
Interlibrary Loan - Through the library's Interlibrary Loan service, you can place requests online for books, articles, videos, DVDs, etc. Most items are received within 1 week to 10 days, and there is no Interlibrary Loan charge for faculty members. To place your request, choose the proper request form. Fill in as much information on the form as you can. You will be informed by email or paper notice when your item arrives.
ARKLink - 47 Arkansas libraries participate in the ARKLink borrowing card program, which allows students, faculty, and staff to have access to the resources at other ARKLink libraries. To request an ARKLink card, fill out the Online ARKLink Card Application Form accessible from the ARKLink page. Submit your application electronically and you should receive your card within 3-5 days in the mail. Library policies vary, so please inquire about specific library privileges at the library you visit.

How do I schedule my class for a Library Instruction session?
To schedule your class for library instruction, please contact our Instruction Librarian least 3 weeks before you would like the instruction session to take place, and please be prepared to share information about the type of instruction you will need.
If your class meets in a smart room, we will be glad to come to you. For other classes, we will schedule a lab that meets the needs of your class. If you wish to bring a class to the library to do research, please let us know at least two days in advance and we will set aside a group of computers for you.
Classes which are held online or meet away from Searcy's campus can also benefit from library instruction. Please contact our Instruction Librarian for information about services for off-campus or online classes.
