grade-trade

Grade-Trade

Yes, you can TRADE YOUR GRADE with another student--but only for selected classes that use team projects for a major portion of the grade. Check your syllabus or talk with the professor to see if grade-trade is approved for your class project.

Here's how Grade-Trade works:

Grade-trade is designed to promotion fairness and equality among team members working on a team project. Many projects present difficulty in sharing an equal work load among team members. Thus, one or two team members may end up doing a larger amount of the work while other team members complete smaller tasks. When these inequities occur, a team may decide to use the grade-trade option.

Grade-trade allows a team to divide up to a maximum of 7 percent of the project grade among team members. For example; on a 100 point project, a team may transfer a maximum of 7 points among team members in any manner agreed to. However, there must be a "zero-sum difference." This means that for any points given to one team member, the same points must be subtracted from other team members. The point distribution allows for a team to "distribute" points to team members that do a larger amount of the project work. The number of team members participating and the actual points transferred may vary as the team decides.

Instructions on using grade-trade:

1) all affected team members must mutually agree to the trade

2) provide a short written justification discussing why the team members deserve the additional points, and include how the points should be distributed

3) hand the grade-trade request directly to the professor IN A SEALED ENVELOPE at the same time the paper is submitted for grading. Once the grade-trade is submitted it cannot be changed, altered or cancelled--it stays

The project will be graded as usual by the professor for an initial grade. The envelope will then be opened and the grade adjusted up and down for those students participating in the grade-trade option. The adjusted grade will be posted in the gradebook. Other team members not selecting grade trade will receive the initial grade.

NOTE:  Any errors, incomplete information, or unreasonable justification in the grade-trade request will result in the grade-trade being voided and cancelled. Please ensure you submit it correctly the first time.
