Area leaders launch Harding fund drive

SEARCY, Ark. — More than 40 Searcy business and civic leaders met on
the Harding University campus Wednesday to launch the Searcy Drive for
Harding. The goal for this year is to raise $2.2 million for student
scholarships.

The first campaign was launched in 1959, and local residents have
contributed more than $9 million to scholarships during the past 11
campaigns. The majority of funds raised are earmarked for student
scholarships.

Reynie Rutledge, chairman of First Security Bancorp, will serve as
chairman of the Searcy Drive for Harding. The Honorable John Paul
Capps, a lifelong Searcy resident and Arkansas legislator for nearly
45 years, and Dr. Clifton L. Ganus Jr., a Harding graduate who served
as president of the University for 22 years and currently serves as
chancellor, will both serve as honorary chairs of the fund drive.

The following individuals will serve as ambassadors for the
University, asking nearly 900 local residents to contribute to the
scholarship fund.
