Harding staff members receive Distinguished Service awards

SEARCY, Ark.⎯Four members of Harding University’s staff were presented
with Distinguished Service awards during the annual faculty and staff
dinner April 24.

Mary Bridges, Lyn Blansett, David Elliott and Joy Slayton are the 2009
award winners.

Bridges, assistant director of the business office, has been on staff
at Harding since 1984. In addition to the service award, she also
received her 25-year service pin.

Blansett started working at Harding in 1992 as a staff programmer for
the information center. She went on to become the University’s
database administrator in the information services and technology
department, where she administers 20 databases.

Elliott, professor of kinesiology, has worked for the University since
1969. In addition to teaching, he has coached the men’s tennis team
for 34 years and the women’s team for 18 years. He is the
longest-serving coach in Harding history. Elliott has never had a
losing season and, in 2006, he became only the fourth collegiate coach
on record to have 1,000 wins. He also received his 40-year service pin
at the dinner.

Slayton joined the University’s staff in 1984, working in the public
safety department. She has spent most of her years at Harding as a
residence life coordinator or “dorm mom” in Stephens Hall. She also
received her 25-year service pin, in addition to the award.

All four staff members received a $2,000 check and a framed
certificate commemorating the award.
