Women honored for service to Harding University
SEARCY, Ark. ⎯ Numerous women were honored for their contributions to
Associated Women for Harding at the annual National Council meeting
and Worthy Woman luncheon held on campus May 1.
Charlene Prock received the Lifetime of Service award for her example
of service and sharing. She is the wife of former Harding Bison
football coach John Prock.
Worthy Woman award recipients included Ruth Browning, Norma Lou
Rollman and Betty Davis, all of Searcy, and Patti Walker of Heber
Springs.
Harriet Raley of Searcy was named Member of the Year for the Searcy
chapter, Jan Funk was named Member of the Year for the Heber Springs
chapter, and Amber Hutchinson was named Member of the Year for the
Northwest Arkansas chapter. Hutchinson was also named Outstanding
Member of the Year for AWH.
The group was founded in 1965 as a Christian service organization.
Each year, volunteers throughout the country work together on numerous
projects to raise money. Over the years, AWH has worked to refurbish
residence hall rooms, purchase art equipment, and provide lab
equipment for the science department. Since 1990, the proceeds from
all AWH fundraising – totaling more than $1 million – have been
donated to need-based scholarships for freshmen as well as other
projects.
At the meeting, the group presented a check for nearly $110,000 to
President David Burks for scholarships at Harding.
