Harding to receive Outstanding Center of Influence award

SEARCY, Ark.⎯The Arkansas National Guard will recognize Harding
University as an Outstanding Center of Influence at the Freedom Salute
ceremony on Sunday, May 3, at 3:30 p.m. in Benson Auditorium.

Executive Vice President Dr. James W. Carr will accept the award
presented by the 2nd Battalion, 153rd Infantry, 39th Brigade Combat
Team, in recognition of Harding’s support to the unit and guardsmen of
Searcy.

The Outstanding Center of Influence is an individual or organization
chosen by the unit itself for their assistance to soldiers during
mobilization. According to Maj. Greg Pelts, it’s only natural that
Harding should receive such an award.

“Our battalion headquarters is here in Searcy, and Harding has hosted
many of our ceremonies in the past,” says Pelts. “The University has
been very eager to help us on a variety of occasions.”

The University will receive a framed mosaic American flag print at the
ceremony. The award is only presented during a unit’s Freedom Salute
Ceremony, post mobilization, about three months after their return
home. Ten individuals and organizations will receive influence awards
at the ceremony.

Harding had a record enrollment this year of more than 6,500 students
from 48 states and 52 foreign countries. It is the largest private
university in Arkansas and attracts more National Merit Scholars than
any other private university in the state. Harding also maintains
campuses in Australia, Chile, England, France/Switzerland, Greece,
Italy and Zambia.
