Harding University students and graduate contribute to Arkansas Encyclopedia
SEARCY, Ark.— Six graduates of Harding University have had articles published in the online Arkansas Encyclopedia of History and Culture.The students and their articles are Jared Street, "Nolan Richardson;" Ryan Walters, "John Arthur Tillman;" Bryce Kittinger, "Perry Wayne Ouzts" and "Carliss Williamson;" Josh Gann, "Yellow Fever;" and Aimee Cancienne, "John Robert Starr." Graduate Aaron Miller was also featured with his article "Bazooka (Musical Instrument)."
Dr. Paul Haynie, professor of history, encouraged students in his Arkansas history class to pick a topic that interested them and submit the articles for possible publication. The submitted articles were reviewed by scholars and editors to ensure accuracy and quality and then published in the encyclopedia.
Haynie has had six articles published in the encyclopedia. They are "The Churches of Christ," "Harding University," "George Benson," "James D. Bales," "Ray Thornton" and "The Handy Wagon."
The Encyclopedia of Arkansas Project has a goal to collect and share information about the history and culture of the state of Arkansas. This collection provides a comprehensive reference for historians, teachers, students and individuals that will promote the study, understanding and appreciation of Arkansas's heritage.
Harding had a record enrollment this year of more than 6,500 students from 48 states and 52 foreign countries. It is the largest private university in Arkansas and attracts more National Merit Scholars than any other private university in the state. Harding also maintains campuses in Australia, Chile, England, France/Switzerland, Greece, Italy and Zambia.
