Spring Sing celebrates 38th show with “Welcome Home”

The 38th annual Spring Sing at Harding University will celebrate matters of the home and heart with its 2011 production “Welcome Home,” running April 21-23 in the Benson Auditorium on campus.

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, March 22, from 1-4 p.m. in the Benson lobby, and online ticket sales will begin Wednesday, March 23, at www.hardingtickets.com

More than 1,000 students will collaborate in this year’s annual music variety show under the themes of home, heart, heroes, Harding and heaven.

“There is a real sense that home is so much more than a house we live in,” Dr. Steve Frye, Spring Sing director and Harding professor of communication, said. “It is the place where we are at peace, where we love and are loved; home is worth defending. College becomes home for young adults launching into a bigger world, and our real home is still waiting for us in heaven.”

The 18 participating social clubs and friends will present a variety of show themes, including The Office, Robin Hood, kids, the future, and farmers, on a unique two-story house set. The clubs compete each year for cash prizes to be donated to a charity of their choice; the charities represented this year include the Sunshine School, Searcy Children's Home, Easter Seals, Habitat for Humanity, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in honor of Nancy Chandler, a participating student’s mother.

The production will also feature a special preshow in front of the Benson and the use of several onstage vehicles throughout the production, led by this year’s hosts and hostesses, seniors Sam Barker and Cameron Frazier, junior Caroline Snell and freshman Tori Wisely.

Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23. Tickets are $10 for Thursday’s show; $10, $12 and $15 for Friday night and Saturday at 2 p.m.; and $15 for all tickets Saturday night.
