McNair Scholars Program receives funding
The Harding University McNair Scholars Program has been federally funded through the U.S. Department of Education for the 2012-17 funding cycle. The program has received $231,000 for this year and will serve 27 students per year.
The McNair Scholars program began at Harding in 2003 and is now beginning its third funding cycle. The program provides academically enriching experiences and mentoring to prepare students for graduate school admission and eventual doctoral study.
Dr. Linda Thompson, director of the program, along with Assistant Director Barbara Cole and secretary Karen Hadwin, prepared the grant and work diligently to serve their students.
“I'm very pleased that Harding will have this program for at least another five years,” Thompson said. “This will give many more students a chance to engage in research with faculty mentors and to prepare for graduate school. It’s really rewarding to work with these committed students.”
