Harding University - Searcy, Arkansas
June 2-7, 2013
Dear Student:
The American Studies Institute is proudly preparing for Harding University’s 57th annual National Leadership Forum. The cost is $120 for the week of Sunday, June 2nd through Friday, June 7th . This cost is often covered by sponsors such as Farm Bureau Insurance, Civitan, or Lion’s Club. If you would like to be sponsored, check with a local representative of one of these orgnaizations, or other civic organizations, amd we will work with them.
At National Leadership Forum you will meet other outstanding student leaders from states across the south. You will be one of almost 300 delegates on campus and this experience will be one which you will long remember and which will become more meaningful to you as the years go by.
We furnish all meals and make your lodging assignment. You will need to bring sheets, towels, washcloths, a blanket, and a pillow for your bed. The dormitories are air conditioned. You may register and check into the dormitories at the American Heritage Center on Sunday June 2nd between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Sunday's evening meal will be provided and our first formal activity begins in the Heritage Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
Students often ask how much money they should bring. All of your meals are provided but you may want to bring some personal spending money. The Harding Student Center offers a variety of eating choices for snacks and the University bookstore has a wide selection of books, music, apparel, and gift items. Probably $25 - $45 is sufficient for spending money.
Harding is a Christian University and our dress code reflects this. Clothing is required to be very modest which means longer shorts and no revealing or low cut tops for girls, waistbands at the appropriate level for guys and girls, neatness for everyone. You will want to bring comfy shoes for daily wear and a dressy outfit for the banquet on the final night – again, please keep outfits modest. (The auditorium where the sessions are held can be cold, so bring a jacket or sweater just in case).
If you play a musical instrument please bring it along. You will have the opportunity to participate in a talent show on the final evening. There are also speeches given on a variety of topics at the talent show.
In regard to the major rules on campus, the rule which we most like to practice is the Golden Rule. We are a smoke, drug, and alcohol free campus.
Please fill out the registration form below as soon as possible. Hopefully, this year's forum will be the best ever. We look forward to your arrival. I'm sure you will make many lasting friendships during this week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Bob Reely, Director
