Miscellaneous Stuff
Non-Class Related Discussions: Class time is valuable and should be reserved for activities which enhance the learning experience for all students. We have a busy schedule, and in order to complete our study together, we must remain as close to schedule as possible. Discussion of matters related to individual grades, etc. will be reserved for times outside of the scheduled class periods (before or after class, or in my office during office hours--or by appointment). I am always here for you, just let me know "when" you need the help.
Discussion of Examinations: Questions regarding grades of exams or other assignments must be addressed before the next exam or assignment. In other words, if you wish to review with the instructor the grade you received on an exam, you must do so prior to the next examination date; similarly, if you wish to review the grade you received on an assignment, do so before the next assignment is due. Too many students to make exceptions to this policy.
My General Philosophy: As with everything in life, when all is said and done, there are a few simple ground rules that I expect you to follow. Here are mine:
Rule 1: Each student must complete the general information sheet you receive on the first evening of class. It allows you to tell me about yourself, i.e., hobbies, family, work, education, goals, etc. We need to get to know one another, don't you agree?
Rule 2: This is a relaxed atmosphere, so there is no dress code--except the one imposed by the University!
Rule 3: You gotta have fun during this process.
Rule 4: We are all entitled to our opinions, misguided as they may be! :-) Debate the issues to your heart's content...but do not be offensive. Oh...and don't forget...everyone else may think the same thing about YOUR opinions as you do about THEIRS! Think about that.
Rule 5: The final examination cannot be waived. Beg, bribe, scream, shout, pray, cry, no matter what--you gotta do it.
Rule 6: In the business world you have to use a little extra care in your wordsmithing so the point you are trying to get across is not misunderstood. If your message is intended to be funny, consider the ramifications of a public comment and its effect on your classmates. Everyone loves humor--but we don't want to use it at someone else's expense, do we?
Rule 7: Aside from common sense, there "ain't" no more rules!
