COBA Students Spend Spring Break Skiing and Networking in Denver

    Spring Break 2018

Many students like to spend their Spring Break at home or vacationing at the beach, but for a group of 11 COBA students, their Spring Break was put to use networking with different organizations in Denver, Colorado. This diverse group of students was comprised of international students, athletes, and various majors. Over the course of the week, these students got to explore different companies in the Denver area, participating in a mock interviews and company tours.

Jasmine Griffin, a senior, international business major, described it as, “a sort of House Hunters for business.” The students would meet with their contact at the organization, usually a Harding alum, take a tour of the business, and go back to the boardroom to discuss company operation and insights. Each business allowed the students to explore the pros and cons of working for that organization and examine the different kinds of corporate culture. The organizations visited included Charles Schwab, Modis, AmTrust, Marco’s Pizza, and many more. Prior to the trip, each student was given one of the companies to research. Before visiting each business, the student assigned to research that company would present his or her synopsis to the other students, thus enabling them to ask more informed questions.

Jasmine described the experience as “…a great chance for growth in professional development. Not only were there many opportunities to network, but getting to see the faces behind a broad scope of companies in the Denver metro area provided a well-rounded perspective on what it would be like to live there.”

Outside of valuable networking experiences, the students also got to spend part of their break exploring Denver. Several of their activities included skiing and tubing in Winter Park, bowling, mini golf, and exploring places like downtown Denver and Red Rocks. The Center for Professional Excellence hosts a Spring Break trip every year in a different location, and all COBA students are invited. Are you interested in learning about the 2019 trip?
