The Department of Art & Design offers three Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees. All three share a 34-hour core of art classes, including drawing, design, color theory, painting, art history, three-dimensional media, and visual aesthetics. During the capstone Senior Seminar, which is part of the art core, the students prepare their portfolios and Senior Shows. The 34-hour art core provides the foundation for a concentration in one of three specialty areas; Graphic Design (78 hours), Painting (75 hours), or Three-dimensional (76 hours). In order to prepare for the challenging job market and/or pursue graduate study, the BFA degrees are designed for students desiring more in-depth academic experiences in their chosen area.
The catalog descriptions and course requirements can be found in the HU Catalog.
Here is a sample schedule for graphic design. Note that it is a sample and is provided as a suggestion/help for students planning their semesters. Courses may close or fill up, requiring an adjustment to what a student may register for in any given semester.
